I would like to welcome you to the launching of the Bladder Cancer Sisterhood. I am bladder cancer survivor, and because of it being stage III and invasive by the time it was diagnosed, my bladder was removed and I had to undergo a radical hysterectomy. I have an Indiana pouch. I consider myself very lucky to be alive 10 years later.
I have been working on awareness and advocacy for several years. One thing I have discovered, as I am sure many of you have also, is that there is little out there directed to the support for women who have bladder cancer. There is little research that is directed to bladder cancer. The awareness of this cancer as it relates to women is very limited. Far too many doctors do not test women for bladder cancer even when they have all the symptoms and are in one of the risk groups. I hope this website, the BC Sisterhood Group, and the BC Sisterhood Blog will be a way that we can unite and change that.
If we bond together, speak out in a unified voice, we may begin to be heard. As least we can begin to make a difference for those that follow us. It will help others to know they are not alone. They need you, and we need each other.
Over the years I have written poetry. I wrote a lot during my fight with cancer and during my recovery. My writing served as a catharsis to help me cope with the issues that I faced. My book was published last year and I am using the profit I make from the book sales to support awareness of bladder cancer. My dream is that we can establish an organization for the sisterhood so that we can work for the support that other cancer survivors have.
I am booking speaking engagements to share my story and to educate others about this disease. I can only hope that others will join my quest to fight this little known disease called bladder cancer that research indicates has surpassed lung cancer in prevalence.

A Tired Vagabond
When my feet grow too weary of walking through endless time and change, When the wonder of life is gone and everything seems foreign or strange, When I have played the sense-song through and wearied of its themes, When I have lived life more vividly than all my maddest dreams, Then I will gather all I love around my banquet board. And when the songs have all been sung and when the wine has been poured, When I have crashed my goblet on the floor and watched the crimson seep, Then through destiny's door will I slowly leave with reluctant silent feet.

BC Bumble Bee My Mascot
According to the laws of physics a bumble bee can't fly because his wings are too small for his size and mass. No one has told him he can't, so, he flies anyway. With this attitude the fight against Bladder Cancer can be won! Join me in the fight!
